When I first stepped into the world of real food, I was shocked. Learning about chemicals, preservatives, hormones, gmo’s and all that growing and raising our food in an industrial matter entails was quite overwhelming.
I knew right away, I wanted to make changes in the foods that my family ate for the benefit of my children and theirs to come. In the process, my eyes were also opened to the damaging effects this type of industrialized farming has on our environment. From air, and water pollution to eroding soil and the killing of its organisms, microbes, and bacteria.
As much as I wished that all I had to worry about were the things my family was consuming, in the process of turning to a real food lifestyle, I learned that what we put on our body and the chemicals that we use around us can be just as damaging and cause just as much pollution to the environment around us.
Today there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market that have never been properly studied to see if they’re toxic to our health.
Trust me, when I started to learn about all of this, I wanted to give up! It can be so overwhelming that one can begin to feel hopeless.
However, just like it’s important to transition to real food in baby steps for your mere sanity, the same can be said for transitioning to a greener lifestyle. In baby steps. I’m STILL taking one small step at a time in this area.
Green Your Life – A Guide To Natural, Eco-Friendly Living
I’m blessed with the best internet friends a girl could have ever asked for. My sweet friend Emily, from Live Renewed, has just put out a fantastic eBook called, Green Your Life, that has been helping me on my journey to green living. Green Your Life: A Guide to Natural, Eco-Friendly Living walks you through making simple changes to your home and lifestyle that can have a big impact on the world around you.
Green living has become an important subject to me… especially since reading this quote by Jessica Alba.
There are way too many toxic chemicals in products currently sitting on shelves that have not been tested and can cause long term damage to our health and that of our children. As important as this subject is, I’ve been taking baby steps in my own journey to green living.
Remember, I’m moving in baby steps. For example, I’m trying to move away completely from using paper towels. So far, I’m using microfiber cloth towels in my kitchen as well as paper towels. Hey, at least I’m coming along, right?
Also, I’ve been buying my own natural cleaners for quite awhile now; however, her book has shown me how simple making my own at home can be. So this year, one of my goals is to make all of my own cleaners using the recipes in this book.
As far as personal care, I love that Emily breaks down exactly which top toxic ingredients we need to avoid and then shares with us her beauty routine. This is helping me filter through even natural products on the market.
I also enjoy that Emily shares tips on saving energy, conserving water, and even keeping toxins out of your home by growing houseplants. She gives a great list of houseplants, some of which I’m planning on purchasing for my own home.
Being that I spend my time and energy in researching real food, I’m so happy to have such a simple to follow resource on green living that I use often. It’s making it simple for me to make one small baby step at a time.
This is a book that I highly recommend to anyone starting their green living journey. It’s simple to read, filled with great information, easy to make products, and simple steps to living a greener life that will make a big impact on the world around you. I love it!
You can get your own digital copy here, along with more details on exactly what it contains.

Hi Diana
Thanks for a great resource, and also profiling this book. Before purchasing, and participating in the green challenge which I think is fantastic, I wanted to find out whether the book and challenge references specific products or ingredients that could possibly not be easily available here in South Africa (where I am from)
I am an avid reader of yours and other blogs, and subscribe to the green and simple lifestyle, but often recommendations are made for products / brands and ingredients not freely available here.
Would I find it challenging to get the best from the book and challenge Ito this, or would it be as applicable to me in your opinion?
Thanks so much for a great site, I look forward to hearing from you,
MELANIE
