Give the Gift of Tech! Stem for Homeschoolers!

When I was first approached by Creation Crate to review their tech education in-a-box, I said, “Yes!” There’s a couple reasons I was very excited.

First of all, I have two boys that enjoy building and figuring things out. They spend a lot of time building intricate Lego creations that have moving parts like gum ball machines and hand guns (to shoot aliens), or builds that have secret compartments like puzzle and lock boxes. (You can find all kinds of Lego builds by searching on YouTube.)

Second, I’m a web designer and developer by profession. I spent many years developing websites and I found the most enjoyment coding on the back end to make things function properly on the front end. When Creation Crate explained to me that these fun projects were not just building but programming, I was all in!

So what is Creation Crate?

Give the Gift of Tech! Stem Education for Homeschoolers

Creation Crate is a super fun tech project delivered each month, in-a-box!  With Creation Crate, you can learn how to build electronics without any prior experience. Creation Crate projects are a combination of building hardware and programming software with a focus on helping you understand how it works. Each month, you’ll be given a new project that’s slightly harder than the last.

What’s In the Box?

Every box is going to be different depending on the project, but the 3 main components are: the UNO R3 (Arduino-compatible), which is like a pocket-sized computer, various components, and the instruction booklet.

The core sections of the instruction booklet are: Hardware, Programming, Common Errors, and Exercises. Each section contains detailed explanations of the steps. You’ll also be given a password to access a project support page on their website.

Who’s It For?

The recommended age is 12+; however, the projects are doable at a younger age with parental guidance.

But remember, it’s not just for kids. Creation Crate is for anyone with an interest in building electronics!

STEM Education for Homeschoolers!

STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Mathematics) is highly valued and encouraged in our school systems. As a home educator, I appreciate these tech projects in-a-box that allow me to bring some STEM education into our homeschool day. Although the first project was a learning experience for us all, I feel that my 8 and 10 year olds will catch on quickly and be able to do many of the later projects on their own.

My daughter, who is 4 years-old, enjoyed watching and helping where she could. I’m sure she’ll take to it sooner than later as well.
