Facebook Friday on Thursday ;)

Hi everyone!  I know I promised a week of giveaway’s, and stick around as I do have one more giveaway that I just didn’t have the time to prepare and get up for today.  My hopes are to have that up for you tomorrow!  So what I was planning to do tomorrow, I’ll do today!

Now that I’ve set up a Facebook fan page, I wanted to start A Little Bit of Spain in Iowa’s Facebook Friday!  A subject posted on my blog and then discussed about on Facebook!  I have so many questions, so many subjects that I would love to hear from you on!  So, for this week’s Facebook Friday on Thursday, lol!  I wanted to start by sharing an event to benefit Share Our Strength.  A non-profit organization to end childhood hunger in America.

I am happy to announce that I will be participating in the 12 Days of Sharing virtual cookie swap that is being hosted by In Jennie’s Kitchen.  Be sure to check out all of the details and join in the fun.  The swap will be taking place starting next Monday, December 7th through December 18th, and there are a few ways for you to participate…

  • Post a cookie recipe (or any baked good) on your site and add it to the virtual cookie jar by sending an email to [email protected]. Use “In Jennie’s Kitchen” as the subject and be sure to include a link to your recipe and a photo of your cookies.
  • Post the 12 Days of Sharing badge on your site for the entire 12 days to show your support and encourage your readers to make donations. (grab the badge from my sidebar 😉
  • Click on one of the 12 Days of Sharing banners/badges to make a donation to Share Our Strength. By making a donation, you will be eligible for a giveaway with some great prizes (including a Cuisinart stand mixer, gift bags from the Food Network, and much more!).
  • Check back every day to see recipes from the co-host (I’ll be co-hosting one day) and discover some new favorite holiday recipes of your own.  Once you have, be sure to share your favorites on Facebook and Twitter to encourage others to participate and make a donation to Share Our Strength!

For Facebook Friday, (on Thursday) I would like to discuss ways to help end childhood hunger in our own areas and any ideas you have to make a difference!  Also, with the Christmas season, I’d like to remember that we’re celebrating this holiday because of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!  It’s during this season that we can really focus on being the missionaries that God has wanted us to be.  I don’t mean going out to the ends of this world.  Our first mission should be in our homes, to our neighbors, to our own community.  There is so much need right in our own backyards!  So many children suffering, hungry, and unattended to.  Teens and young adults left to fend for themselves, with a hard exterior, but searching for someone to listen, someone to understand!  Our own children, wanting to spend some extra time with mommy baking cookies!  So, how can we be a missionary to serve God in our own community during this Christmas season?  What are your thoughts on how we can make a difference?  Donations, spending time at a local youth shelter, nursing home, giving food to a local food bank, maybe learning about a new organization that we can volunteer for?  Any thoughts, ideas are welcome!  Maybe spending an extra hour with our own kids?  Hey, maybe you can think of a fun blog event to put together to spread the news of Jesus Christ!  Any ideas are welcome, let’s do it!!

So feel free to comment or head on over to Spain in Iowa’s facebook fan page and leave a suggestion or discussion topic.

I am not sure how the cookie swap exactly, but I am very interested. I made Buckeyes today. They are the best Hoiday cookie ever. They are an Ohio thing, so I am not sure if many ppl. have heard of them. I will be posting them. How do I link them to the cookie swap?
