Epicurean Andalucia with Diana Bauman, A Culinary Tour

Come Tour Spain With Me

me_nehe

Experience Travel to Andalucía,

the region many call the real Spain, to taste centuries of flavors inherited from the coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Islamic cultures. The bounty of the southern fields and Atlantic shores appears in the traditional recipes and renowned tapas. Farm and sea to table are a way of life in southern Spain. Discover what Spanish chef Ferrán Adrià calls “la vida tapa,” a lifestyle centered on food and good company.

This is it everyone! This is my first tour that I hope you can join me on.

From May 9 – 14th, six days and five nights, you will be experiencing Spain through it’s people, culture and food.

Cuisine: Traditional Andalusian cooking. Typical ingredients and dishes include seafood, pork, wild game, salt cod, artichokes, asparagus, peppers, tomatoes, gazpacho, salmorejo, tortilla española.

Dianas- Spain 2010 276

Artisanal Producers: Much of Andalucía’s agriculture has been sustainably based for centuries. Local markets sell the products grown and produced in the region. In recent years, the slow food movement has begun to take shape and producers have begun to produce their grapes, olives, meats and vegetables organically. We will visit small artisanal organic producers of wine, olive oil, cheese and Iberian ham.

CulinaryActivities: Tapas bars in Sevilla, private cooking classes, market visits, Spanish wine tasting, traditional Andalusian lunches, Iberian ham producer, Sherry wineries, organic olive oil producer, traditional cheese maker

This will be an intimate guided tour limited to a maximum of 12 people

This is a special tour for me since I will be sharing intimate local places that I visit, shop and eat at. Places that go above and beyond a normal guided tour. I want you to feel like a local, to experience Spain through the eyes of a Spaniard. In order to do that, I must limit the tour to a maximum of 12 people. This will allow us to visit small tapas bars, patisseries and thoroughly enjoy our market visits and culinary classes.

Our Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Sevilla.

Dianas- Spain 2010 396

The historic city center of Sevilla will be your base for the tour. Explore the narrow streets and alleyways of the medieval Jewish Quarter. Evening guided tapas tour in the Barrio de Santa Cruz leads you through the maze of tapas bars, each one with a local specialty dish.

Day 2

Guided walking tour of historic Sevilla and the astonishing monuments including the Gothic Cathedral–the third-largest church in the world–and the Alcázar–a Moorish-built palace complete with traditional patios and fountains. Includes a walking tour of the labyrinthine narrow streets of the historic Santa Cruz district.

Market Visit to Sevilla’s Triana Market. (While there, we may have to get “lost” in the streets of Triana, known for the dozens of shops selling handmade Spanish ceramics 😉

Private Evening Cooking Class in Sevilla with Chef Willy Moya. Enjoy the food you cook with wine.

Overnight Palacio de Villapanés Hotel

Day 3

Full day Iberian Ham Tour

Explore the region where some of Spain’s premier ham is produced. The production of Iberian ham, or jamón ibérico, is the ultimate traditional / organic low-impact agricultural system. The Iberian pigs are raised free range in the Andalusian meadows, feeding on grass, herbs, and in the autumn, acorns fallen from the native Holm Oak trees. It is these acorns that give the ham its characteristic nutty taste, leading Spanish foodies to call it “Spanish caviar”. You will visit a farm where the pigs roam, and the curing facilities, where the best hams are dried for up to 36 months. You will taste the ham and magnificent chorizo sausage. Next, you will be treated to some of the best food in Andalucía, in a lunch featuring all of the local in-season products.

Return to Sevilla in the early evening for dinner on your own in one of the gastronomic capitals of Spain.

Overnight Palacio de Villapanés Hotel

Day 4

Spend the morning touring Sevilla on your own. I’d encourage you to visit La Plaza de Espana and La Parque de Maria Luisa.

Day 5

We will first visit a traditional olive oil mill where they make organic olive oil in much the same way as they have for hundreds of years. Taste the liquid gold oil in a guided tasting session.

Sherry Wine Tour in Jerez de la Frontera
Private wine expert guide takes you first to a vineyard outside of the Sherry town of Jerez de la Frontera to see how the Palamino grapes are cultivated. Then you will tour two bodegas in town, tasting various types of Sherry, ranging from dry Fino to sweet Sherry. Lunch of traditional cuisine in the old city of Jerez follows.
