MadeOn: All Natural Lotion Bar Review and Giveaway

products

As an avid gardener and type A mama who seems to always be on my feet, I tend to have a problem with hard dry heels.

heels

I know, not flattering at the least.

However, I’m also that kind of girl that doesn’t like smelly lotions or anything with toxic chemicals.

As a gardener, scented lotions attract to many bugs leading to bites.

As a mama, I’m just not comfortable lathering lotion on myself or my children when I know many of the ingredients used are unregulated chemicals which can be toxic. (Use the skindeep database to find out what’s in your lotion)

Unfortunately, being a bit of a tomboy, I usually end up not using lotion at all.

It’s kind of funny how the Lord works.  My heels have been a hot topic between my mami and I.

She’s been determined to bring out the woman in me, giving me suggestions on how to smooth out my heels.

That same week, Renee had emailed me wanting to send me a few samples of her lotion bars, MadeOn.  A hard lotion bar made with all natural ingredients.

“Okay,” I thought to myself, “someone is trying to tell me something.”

My first thought was, “What in the world is hard lotion?”

From the MadeOn website, I found out that hard lotion is solid at room temperature.  It is designed to specifically protect hands and feet from cracked and extreme dry skin.

What made me excited was to find out what’s in the lotion.

Shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax.  That’s it.  3 ingredients.

When I saw that MadeOn also makes a bug blog with all natural ingredients, I was practically jumping up and down.  I’m sure all you organic gardeners can relate.

It’s made with the same 3 ingredients but also adds essential oils of citronella, cedarwood, and lavender to create the added benefit of repelling mosquitoes.

Yes please!

I was sent a beautiful package of hard lotion bars in their own tins.  Included was all natural lip balm in unscented and peppermint.

products_2

Once opened, each hard lotion bar is wrapped in wax paper.

bar_hardlotion

I started to use it on my heels right away.  What I enjoyed about the bars is that once applied to your skin, they start to warm and it’s easily applied to your skin.

It’s not sticky or oily which I love.

Once I started to apply it on my heels, I started to use it on my hands, arms and elbows.  It’s soothing and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized.

Te bee silk hard lotion is going to be great to have especially when the dry winter weather slowly creeps in.

Once I started using the lotion, I was excited to give the bug block a try.  It goes on just as easy as the bee silk and moisturizes your skin while repelling insects.

You can smell the citronella and other essential oils going to work. It worked great.  No bug bites bothering me.

Once I saw how the natural bug block was working, I decided to try it for another use.

All Natural Fly Repellant for Dogs

As an urban homesteader with dogs and chickens in my backyard, flies start to bother my dogs ears.

For the past few years we’ve been using a natural bug repellant on my dogs ears that well… works for a few minutes.

We do not use any of the fly repellant sprays as they are incredibly toxic.

When I saw the hard lotion bar and the fact that it’s made of a bees wax that coats while emulsifying the other ingredients, I was excited to give it a try.

zoes_ear_collage

The essential oils have been repelling the flies and when they do try to land, there’s a nice barrier protecting their skin.

I am honestly ecstatic about using the bug block on my dogs.  It’s our new way of keeping our dogs ears fly free and we’ll definitely be purchasing this specifically for this use in the coming year.

I would say one hard lotion bar of the bug block will last a good 1 1/2 months.  That’s for my 2 German Shepherd Dogs.

I would be interested to hear how it works for horses or cows.

Handmade with Love

What I most enjoy about these hard lotion bars is that they are handmade with passion and love.

So, how do my heels look now?

heels2

Not bad, huh?  It’s only been a week (off and on) and you can tell the dramatic difference.  It’s even made me want to buy a loofah, scrub the area and continue with the bee silk hard lotion.

I’m loving my new heels!

After these results I was so happy that Renee had inquired to partner with me on my blog and best of all, we have a giveaway for you!

Hi there, I was super excited to read about these hard lotion bars, since I too have cracked and ugly heels, being a gardener, natural freak, and home mom. I also have a horse and cow, so I’d be really interested in how the bug repelling lotion bar would work for them. I am definitely anti-fly repellent for myself and my animals since the stuff is so toxic, so I use other natural alternatives, which unfortunately don’t tend to last as long.
