My Favorite Links and Things

My Favorite Links and Things | myhumblekitchen.com

Hey everyone, it’s Summer! Sorry, I’m just so excited that I had to scream that out. With only 5 more days left of homeschool, I’m very excited to start a summer worth savoring. Next week sometime, I plan on sharing with you my thoughts on how my family plans to intentionally savor July. It should be fun so stick around for sure.

Well besides those little thoughts running through my mind I wanted to thank you all for hanging in with me over the past couple of weeks. We were having hosting problems that pretty much took us down for a week. We then moved over to a new hosting provider that I’ll be sure to share about soon. Once we were able to switch providers, it took us about another week to get everything back up and running smoothly. It was a headache for sure, but praise God, it worked out at the end. Thanks again for your patience through all of that.

Besides that mess, the past couple of weeks have been busy for sure. Intentional, but busy. My baby sister was visiting from California and usually when she arrives our schedule immediately goes for a loop. It’s all good as we were all able to spend some much needed Tita Lisa time. My sister is a fantastic photographer so in the midst of her stay she was able to capture some really fun family pictures for me that I’ll share with you as soon as she edits them. The photo above is a sneak peak of one of my favorites. If you’re in Northern California or Iowa, check her out… Photos By Lisa.

While spending time with my sister, we also went camping, played more baseball games, participated in VBS, finished our last horse lessons, picked strawberries at the u-pick farm, and tried to sneak in as much school as we could. This next week is going to be spent getting our last 5 days of school done so that we can kiss 2nd grade and kindergarten goodbye!

So enough about that, let’s get on to my favorite links and things.

Below are a few of my favorite links from this past week

  • Caring For Young Chicks – Gnowfglins. Have you ever wanted to raise your own chicks? If you haveGNOWFGLINS shares the essentials of what you need and how to care for them.
  • Easy Blueberry Chia Jam – Back to the Book Nutrition. With blueberry season just around the corner, this looks like a great jam to try this year.
  • 5 Reasons to Let Your Child Go Barefoot – Red and Honey. Little Mama loves walking around barefoot. This is a great article that shares why allowing your child to go barefoot is actually a good thing.
  • Agua de Sandia – Fresh Bites Daily. This is a refreshing and all natural drink perfect for the blazing heat of summer.
  • Gluten-Free Rhubarb Pie – Natural Fertility and Wellness. I’ve never made a plain rhubarb pie before. Have you?! It looks fantastic so I bought a bundle of rhubarb just for this!

Favorite Verse of the Week

My Favorite Links and Things | myhumblekitchen.com

With the chaotic schedule including many late nights that my family has been having lately, I had to reflect on my life verses quite often.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever thingsare lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Philippians 4:6-8

The boys are growing their own peanuts this year. Hopefully we’ll see a harvest so that they can roast their own peanuts as well.

Picking strawberries at a u-pick farm.

Little Mama loves picking strawberries. This just melted my heart.

Fresh Harvested Golden Raspberries

We’re harvesting raspberries in our urban homestead 🙂

I purchased some tasty garlic scapes at the farmers market.

Summer beet and strawberry salad

Simple summer salads are my favorite. With a simple vinaigrette they can be made with any combination of fruit or vegetable as they come into season. Nothing fancy just a good olive oil, vinegar, and salt will make any salad taste fantastic. Look out for a post coming this week.

Have a Blessed Sunday!

Philippians Ch. 4 is one of my favorite chapters! I also love the reminder not to compare our Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 20 – such a great reminder. Your family pic is beautiful – you have a talented sis. How do you plan on eating your garlic scapes? I have only had them pickled.
