Hey. It’s been awhile.
Since the hacker attack earlier this year, things have been a bit of a mess on the blog side of things. In my opinion, anyways. I’m not pleased with the aesthetic so far … the design. I’ve realized; however, that I’ve allowed my opinion on what the site design looks like to keep me from the written word. It’s the ENFP perfectionist in me.
I’ve come to the conclusion that it is what it is.
I just want to write.
I have many posts written upon my thoughts that are starting to overfill my cup.
An entire series on anxiety.
Many recipes like this salmon and basil pesto potatoes tossed with buckwheat and spinach.
Swoonworthy!
Also, I have many posts to share on homeschooling and how we’ve come to have the best, rest-filled, year ever!
Oh, and we’re moving to the country! Yes, we’re in the beginning stages of planning our new home build. Soon enough we’ll be living on 10 acres and beginning our new homestead journey.
Our new home should look similar to this.
I’m very excited; yet, at the same time, a little saddened to leave behind our urban homestead that has treated us so well over the past decade.
But chickens, guineas, goats, pigs … oh, my heart is singing.
Have a great Earth Day, friends. You’ll be hearing more from me!
Get outside today and enjoy His creation.
Yay!
Welcome back! PLEASE, send out the recipe for the Salmon! It looks yummy! (I’m writing this in the morning, and now I’m hungry for a good piece of salmon!! LOL) I’m excited to see your new home being built! 🙂 THANK YOU for sharing all your wonderful tips and words of encouragement!
Thanks for the encouragement, Barb! I’ll get that recipe up, pronto!!
Yippy? So excited to have you back!
Thanks, Colleen!
I agree with the other poster that Barred Rock are excellent and super enjoyable chickens. So are Buff Orpingtons and they both lay big eggs (the Buff a bit bigger). Do not skip ducks! They are so much fun and will live nicely with the chickens so long as there is an area they can sleep that doesn’t have chicken perches over them :-). The ducks only need a small pool to be happy and they don’t kill the grass like chickens do but they do burrow holes in it (giggle). The duck eggs are HUGE and creamier as they have a bit more fat and mine lay pretty much as much as the chickens do. Also, people allergic to chicken eggs can usually eat duck eggs with no problems. Sooooo much fun to just watch all these birds! Our goats are La Mancha (no ears) and they are huge and give much more milk than we could ever use (only a few of us and a gallon a day per goat) that is tasty (some goat milk is rank) with high butterfat. They are also a friendly breed – very gentle and calm and quite easy to lead to milking. Good luck!
Barred Rocks are my favorite! So docile, huh?! I just love them. I’d love a Barred Rock Roo now that I can have them!! Woo Hoo 😀 Ducks, I’ll need to keep that in mind, I’d love their eggs! We are definitely doing La Mancha’s. I had no idea they gave that much milk. That’s fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing all of this, Meg! I can’t wait to get started 😀
I second that request for the recipe for the whole plate, yuuuuum!
For sure!
Looking forward to your series on anxiety. As I have been in the midst of it for a year now I am amazed at how the Lord has spoken to me, continued to use me and has grown me spiritually. But those bleak days when Satan chooses to attack are oh so hard. Congratulations on your move to the country soon. We just purchased some acreage and have obtained goats and chickens literally at the same time as closing on the property. We are looking forward to our new adventure as a family. It was great hearing from you on the blog!
I totally know where you’re coming from, Danielle! I’d like to get started on the anxiety series right away. How great that you’re starting your homestead journey as well. Keep in touch, let’s swap stories!!
Hi Diana! I am so excited for your move to the country! It will be fun to see all that you get to do in your new venture. I just moved into town from living 11 years on a 10 acre hobby farm. We had goats, chickens, guineas. Goats were Nubian so made cheese and had fresh milk. My favorite chickens were the barred rocks. They are so friendly and talk to you, good layers too. Also, there is nothing better than homeschooling on your own patch of land. We had a blast! I stumbled on your website a few months ago when looking at urban gardening. I had many large gardens on the farm and still have quite a bit of land (1/3 acre) to have more large gardens. I am now starting from scratch. God’s blessings to you and your family in your transition!
Roberta, I’m so excited to homeschool in the country. They will have so much fun in play. Thanks for sharing this with me, Roberta. Have a blessed day!
I can hardly wait!
Congratulations on the move, and yes please post that recipe as soon as you can!
I will, Soli!
Yay!!
So glad you are back. Can’t wait to hear all the amazing things God will do with you and your family next.
Welcome back!
Thanks, Pam!
Oh Diana! I’m swooning over that farm house! Love it! So excited to see how your homestead comes together. I hope you’ll be able to come to Michelle’s house here in eastern Iowa in late Aug/early Sept for our next blogger meeting? Would love to see you again!
I need to look into that, Ally! It sounds like a great time!
Excited for than anxiety series! I’m dealing with that post baby #2. I love my kids a ton, but this thing keeps hitting me back.
I’m also excited for your stories!! I started following you several years ago, and most of the bloggers I followed then have quit, so it’s great that you’re writing again!
I’ll get that going asap, Laura! Take care!!
I was great to see you in my inbox this morning! Look forward to hearing more from you!
Thanks, Hope!
Hello — welcome back! Looking forward to reading much more from you now that you are “in the groove” and we can once again enjoy your musings!
Thanks, Michelle!
Thank you for your post and the article. I have missed you and all your wisdom you share on Gods green earth, healthy surggestions on recipes and products. I got my first order from vita cost a few weeks ago and was very pleased. God does expect us to put our focus on Him always but He also expects us to share our wisdom with others that He blessed us with. I’m sure He is filled with joy when He sees you sharing His Grace with others. Looking forward to the article on anxiety. I myself deals with depression and it is one of the worst things I have been through, and I have been through much, as is anxiety. God helps get me through if I let Him and not me. Thanks again??
Thanks Susan. I’m going to get that series up soon!
What a joy to have you back…like seeing an old friend whom you haven’t seen in such a long time….welcome home, sister! !
Thanks, Mary Helen!
So glad to see that you’re back! Can’t wait to see updates on your homesteading progress 🙂
Our family has recently gotten back into animals on our small farm – chickens, ducks, goats, sheep and a cow (for beef).
With organic animal feed prices so high, we’ve been playing with traditional practices such as growing fodder, sprouting seed and fermenting for our animals, with very good success overall!
We’re still trying to figure out how to balance minerals for our goats.
It seems that farm life is always about solving new problems – sometimes a bit overwhelming, but so rewarding, too!
We are also implementing the “back to Eden” gardening method, and despite a few setbacks, we are enjoying this SO much more than dealing with weeding and watering all the time.
I can’t wait to hear what you’re learning and glean insights from you!

Amanda, I’ll have to follow you! It’s nice when others pave the way ahead of you. I’ve got a LOT to learn when it comes to animal husbandry. I can take care of chickens, but it pretty much stops there, lol!! I can’t wait to start this journey!
Welcome back, I think the blog design looks great! Looking forward to your delicious recipes.
Thanks, Kristal!
Oh yeah, to forge ahead in spite of perfectionism! I wrote about that on my blog too:

Tye writing/content should be what matters 🙂
