10 in 2010

Ten in 10 Challenge is a challenge hosted by Lori (@Recipe Girl) where food bloggers are uniting together to get healthy in 2010!

When I first heard of this challenge through my wonderful friend Paula from bell’ alimento I knew I wanted to participate as a way to meet supportive and encouraging people to help me achieve my goals. My goals are not so much in changing my eating habits for 2010, but to once again incorporate exercise into my daily routine and life.

Physical activity has always been so important to me.  I’ve thrived on it.  Many of my friends know and I have admitted many times, that I have always been, well.. more on the tomboy side of things.  As a young kid, I spent countless nights rollerskating, playing street hockey, street baseball, and running around outside getting dirty.  In high school, I was in the marching band, soccer, and later turned to skateboarding.  Yeah, I was an avid skateboarder!  (It’s how I met my hubby, lol!)  A group of us girls actually started getting good!  We could boardslide, 50-50, ollie off 5 stairs at a time, ollie gaps and hang with the boys!  We had fun!  I continued skating until around 25, when I learned that I really enjoyed running.  The first year that I started to run, I ran a half marathon and loved it!  Once I got pregnant and had my first son, my husband bought me a bike and we started biking with my son in tow.  It was at that time that I also started to kickbox and wow, did I ever love that!  I’m not talking about cardio kickboxing, but a high intense kick and punch the bag kind of kickboxing.  I got in the best shape of my life and really enjoyed the energy and strength that came with it.  Unfortunately, after having my second son I once again started kickboxing but last summer, I abandoned it.  With gardening, working, and taking care of my family, I just didn’t make it a priority.  One week, led to two, led to three, led to months!  That’s why in 2010 I need to add exercise back into my life!

This challenge officially started last week, but.. better late than never!  I’ll only be blogging about my challenge and achievements on Saturday’s as my blog is about food, gardening, and preserving and I’d like to keep on topic πŸ™‚  So along with exercise, I also have a few more goals to better improve my life and health.

My Health

  1. Kickbox Monday thru Friday at Goals In Motion adding in biking as soon as the weather warms up!
  2. Get to bed by 10:30pm every night. This is so important for my health, energy, and focus.
  3. Drink a green smoothie every morning for breakfast.
  4. Learn to turn my iphone off!  This is a biggie for me.  When going out with my husband and kids, I want to make sure to turn it off and not check my email, facebook, twitter, etc….  I want my full attention on them!
  5. No more McDonald’s happy meals!  Most of my readers know that I love those happy meals!  However, the more and more I learn about REAL FOOD, I KNOW I’m doing myself so much more harm by eating there!  Ammonia filled hamburgers, no thank you!  My family doesn’t eat much fast food, however, I will no longer be turning to the golden arches.

My Spiritual Health

  1. To have a daily devotional “quiet” time with my Savior.
  2. To make sure and have a daily devotional with my boys every day.  One story out of mom and son’s bible takes 10-15 minutes, I have no excuses!
  3. Pray for my husband every day.

One other area in my life that I want to change in 2010 is being more aware and supportive to my husband.  I need to listen to him and be there for him when he needs me.  Being at home it’s so easy to forget the makeup, hair gets tied up and sweats stay on.  This has always been difficult for me as I’ve always been a tomboy.  I can count on one hand how many times I’ve dyed my hair or gotten my nails done.  I won’t start doing these things but do need to get myself dressed well, hair done, and ready myself to start the day.  This always helps me feel better about myself and will also be refreshing for my husband to see a wife who cares for him enough to take care of myself!

So is that enough, lol!!  We’ll see how it goes but I want to keep myself accountable by blogging about my goals and how I did every Saturday morning.  Keep me accountable dear readers!!

Have a great weekend πŸ˜€

I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures in exercise. I'm so bad in this area, I dare not challenge myself.

Really like this post, in spite of the fact that it may not be food related. I like your goals, specially the spiritual ones. Its so easy to lose sight of what really matters when we're busy with our daily tasks. My spiritual goals for this year is to be thankful to God and to trust that everything in my life has a reason. I really look forward to your updates!

I am looking forward to read more about your challenge.
you are actually inspired me to change too in so many ways πŸ™‚
I remember I was vegan for two and a half years & that was before 3 years ago… I just fled so good & literally didn't get any headache…
    I used to walk 5 miles 6 days a week…
but my healthy style begin to change when I first move to study abroad.. first my headaches returned stronger than I used to … add to that so many health problem not to mention gain weight…
so some of my goals for the new year are similar to you πŸ™‚
1)I'll change my eating habits …. 2)losing few pounds & 3)focusing more on my self (I just forget about my self when I take care of other)
4)I'll not waste my time doing something I really don't like just to please someone(it just hard to say no sometimes) !!!!!
5)I want to improve my English language πŸ˜€

as I told you before I love your blog(love to read & learn about food, gardening, and preserving)
& actually I don't mind to read more posts about life πŸ˜‰

Have a good day diana πŸ™‚
