Christmas is almost here and my kids are beaming with excitement. This week I’m making tamales roja, a recipe I’ll share soon, and cookies to celebrate Christmas Eve with my family and friends. My favorite night of the year. A night to celebrate the birth of our King amongst family and friends at my home and at our annual Christmas Eve church service.
Although I can’t guarantee many posts this week I do want to share a great tip I just picked up from Organic Gardening Magazine. What does organic gardening have to do with Christmas?
Check it out!

Using Christmas rope lights as a bottom source of heat to germinate and keep seedlings warm. A tip from a reader and a most ingenious one at that.
In early February I’ll be starting my seeds and as you probably read last year, I generally use a heater to keep my seeds warm in our frigid cold basement. Non-LED Christmas rope lights seem like a great frugal alternative to a heater or buying an electric grow mat.
So before the Christmas season is over I’m heading to my local hardware store and buying some Christmas rope lights for next years organic gardening season. I’m sure the day after Christmas I’ll find some great deals!
They’d make a great gift for the gardener as well. I’m sure they’d be confused at first, however, when they find out what it’s for I’m sure they’d be all smiles.
Until next year garden soldiers, have a blessed and Merry Christmas!
