It’s Spring

So often during the busyness of Spring I enjoy to stop, sit down and just take it all in.  It’s always a renewed feeling to see new life in plants and animals alike. As for me and my boys, we’re enjoying getting dirty and spending lots of time outside.

Morel time!

My bleeding hearts capture my heart every year.  They are the first flower to bloom in early spring and as quickly as they come… they go.

My chickens once again enjoying their outdoor dirt baths.

Fresh tarragon makes its appearance once again.

My bubba Boaz enjoying the company and weather.

Spring veggies, greens and roots.

Spring… my favorite season of the year.

What have you been up to this Spring?

Alas, spring is still on hold here. There’s snow and record low maximum temps in the forecast today. I’m still plugging along with the greenhouse and indoor growing bench, in hopes that it will warm up eventually. This has been a tough start to the gardening season, but I’m thankful we didn’t get hit with the really rough weather like other areas.

Love love your photos and am so glad you too love the bleeding hearts. We have two a pink and a white one and that is the first thing I look for when I start seeing signs of warmer weather. We have been busy cleaning up the yard, flower beds and vegetable garden from the winter and dividing the crazy amount of flowering plants we have and sharing the love with friends and strangers.

My husband and I just put in 2 raised beds, and 1 is deep, so I can grow potatoes, onions and carrots (3 things I’ve never had a chance to grow before). So…I’m psyched about that. My blueberry bushes survived their first winter, success! And I just got finished prepping my soil to plant some peas and found tons of worms…signs of great soil, and lots of fun for my 2 1/2 year old son.

Although this spring has been cold & rainy in our corner of the Midwest, we have been enjoying fresh spinach (for about a month now) from our cold frame that we planted from seed last Fall, along with carrots & beets that now have a good head start for this season. Just turned over & amended the garden beds in preparation for the Organic vege starts that we will pick up next week. Onions will go in the ground today. Seed potatoes are green sprouting on a sunny window sill to be planted when the ground is a little warmer. Our daffodils, hyacinths & tulips are still spectacular & the Bleeding Hearts have just flowered now too! Ah Spring – the beginning of so much bounty to look forward to!

Much the same as you! 🙂 Building more garden beds, turning over the dirt, building hay feeders for the new animals, putting down grass seed, stacking wood! I love this time of year!
