Living in Simplicity

“Simple Living” is a phrase that has caught on with many and exploded over the internet.  Do it yourself and craft blogs are all the hype as people in the masses have been swarming to cute and thinking, “hey, I can do that.”

Take a look at the boards on pinterest and you’ll see what I mean.  Gardening, canning, crochet, sewing, cooking, baking, building, making… doing.

But what does “Simple Living” really mean?

Simple Living can mean many things to different people.  I recently asked this question on facebook and received a myriad of answers.

Rosi – Appreciating the gifts God has given us everyday, using our hands to do good work, and our hearts to build relationships, community, and family. Love one another!

Angela – For me it has been about slowing down, enjoying the moments. Spending time with my family and being less focused on the aquisition of things. Eating whole foods and moving my body. Taking care of relationships, reconecting, and building new ones.

Maria – Saying no to things that take us away from home and our family. Not wanting more than we have and being very thankful for what we do have. Shopping as little as possible and saying no to consumerism. Putting our faith in Christ and knowing that he will provide exactly what we need, when we need it, even if it’s not what WE think we want/need. Being IN this world but not OF this world. And so much more!

Foy – A simple life to me is finding a balance between modern and old fashion. A comfortable place between too little and too much.

Simple Living Month on Spain in Iowa

There are so many parts to living a simple life and one thing that I’ve recently learned is that to truly live in simplicity, one must have peace.  True peace.

There are so many things in this world that keep us from peace all for the sake of accumulating things that we think are a necessity.

In these past four months, God has truly been working in my life and showing me what Simplicity means for me.  It will mean something different for each of us as we are all in different stages and circumstances in life.

One thing is for sure, we can all find peace and joy in whatever life brings us.  Of course, there’s going to be a lot of God in this.

For the month of February I’d like to share topics related to finding that Simple Life.  Sharing what God has shown me and sharing what God has shown others.

Would You Like To Contribute A Post on Simple Living This Month?

If you have a story to share on a topic related to Simple Living or have a testimony to share on how God has worked in your life to find peace and joy, please email me at [email protected] to contribute.  You don’t need to have a blog to contribute just a meaningful story to share.

I look forward to hearing from you as we all learn in this month of living in simplicity.
