Is June, really, almost over? Goodness, I still have cucumbers and beans to sow. It’s been a busy month but I’m ready to slow down a bit and share what my family has been up to these past few weeks.
Strawberries. We picked our fair share this season. I was able to share my harvest with my older sister and together with our boys we picked nearly 60lbs.
My oldest, Nehemiah, was able to lay down the rules with my sister and his cousin. “You can only pick the ones that are red. If they have white, you need to leave them, okay.” It’s fun seeing him share the fruits of his labor and at the same time, take care of his plot and the ripening fruit.
Baseball Season! With both boys in Bam Bam and T-Ball we have spent most of June at the ballpark.
It’s been so much fun seeing the boys develop their baseball skills. Without turning into proud mama mode, all I can say is… my boys ROCK!
Last week, I was completely devoted to my very first food styling job. The job was for a line of baking products for Wal-Mart. I was able to bake and decorate cakepops, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pies and doughnuts.
Once decorated, I was on set to style the photo using an assortment of props for the shoot. It was a great learning experience working with an art director and in collaborating our ideas.
The products will be out later this year and once they are, I can share the final images with you.
One thing that I learned is that I love being in the kitchen and sharing what I’ve prepared with others. It really made me think about opening up a local cafe here in town.
I’m not sure if it’s the right time just yet, however, I definitely know what I’d like to do but the start up process kind of scares me. That and the investment process.
Does anyone have any experience starting a cafe? If you’d like to share your wisdom, feel free to comment below or drop me a line… [email protected].
Another thing, I enjoy decorating cakes and cupcakes etc… and I would like to learn more about how to do that using natural products. It takes so many dyes and special coloring to get those beautiful colors, I’m wondering if there’s a line of organic products just for that. If you know of any, feel free to share as well.
Camping. After a very busy week of food styling, we spent this past weekend camping to celebrate the birthdays of both my boys.
The entire family was there and we were so blessed to have a dry weekend after a completely rainy forecast.
We had a blast and I actually had fun prepping and preparing most all of the food. We ate like champs.
Seasonal salads, homemade salsas, hot dogs, farm fresh eggs with chorizo, and carne asada. Of course their were smores and cake.
For camping purposes, I left the cakes right in the pan.
The boys had such a great time.
As you can tell, we’ve been busy but loving every second of it… and, Summer has just begun.
WURD!
Great pictures – especially that one where that pink ball is flying at you! Very fun! Happy summer, Diana!
wow, great pics and those strawberries look superb. Cute kids and lots of fun 🙂
Awesome job with the food decoration! The strawberries and your kids look wonderful. I’m so glad you were all able to enjoy a camping weekend with good weather, bonfire activities and birthday cakes.

Thanks Shanon!
Fighting to get the garden in. Crazy, crazy weather this year. Teaching a class about real foods, coordinating a bulk grain order, researching, writing – the time goes by too quickly!
Wow,very cool. I hear you on the busy.
thanks for sharing!
what did you do with 60 lbs of strawberries?
Hi Jessie. I mostly froze them. I’ve been so busy I haven’t yet had a chance to make jam which I will soon ;D I was able to make a couple batches of strawberry lemonade and some strawberry syrup for our morning pancakes. Raspberries are next!
