As usual, Friday and Saturday's are super busy in my household. On Friday night I finished a cake for a girl at my church. I learned how to decorate cakes this past winter. My sister had alway's wanted to learn so I tagged along. Together we took 3 Wilton classes at our local hobby store and I actually ended up teaching myself quite a bit by digging into online tutorials. I love YouTube! This recipe was inspired by Arabic Bites Safija (lentils pizza's). Spanish food is highly influenced by the Arab world including Jews and Moors. The Moors invaded Spain in AD 711 and stayed for nearly 800 years leaving behind their culinary influence especially in the South of Spain we all know as Andalucia. Friends, Family, Fun!
I had a great fun-filled weekend with family and friends. Of course, like all great weekends, they all come to a close way too quickly. On Saturday, Nehe and I hit up the farmers market and of course left with amazing goodies! The best thing I found was huge fresh bulbs of garlic like I have never tasted before – fresh, spicy and flavorful! I'm so excited to use them up this week and hopefully find some more next. I'm thrilled! After 31 years, I'm finally getting my Spanish Citizenship! I'll have dual citizenships from the United States and Spain. My mother just returned from the Spanish embassy in Chicago with all the paperwork necessary. To commemorate, my family had a fantastic bbq including a staple in our house called Aliño.
